Telangana state
77hmmm... its been a long way.. of course people have been fighting for this for more than half a century, so what makes people think that it dosnt make any sense to fight like this? becaue they never try to understand? well!! its not the case because everything is crystal clear then why?
before i begin to explain my views / opinions on the T issue i want to confess that i'm a pro-telanganite and also that i'm convenient with AP, hyd as its capital as long as both exist in this world...
i would not go deep into the history where it all started, but i would provide u with the relevant information where ever necessary
Telangana Sayudha Poratam
Thousands of villages had thrown out the Nizam's police and army, killed or expelled their feudal landlords, and redistributed agricultural land to the tillers.
Starting out from the district of Nallagonda, this movement swept across Telangana, in spite of brutal repression by the Nizam's Razakars
The state of Hyderabad [Telangana]
The state of Hyderabad was surrounded by andhra's in the east, kannadigans in the west, tamilians in the south and maratha's in the north so all the regional languages, cultures were practiced here, also it included regions like NANDER, PARBHANI, AURANGABAD, BHIR, OSMANABAD [presently in Maharashtra] BIDAR, GULBARGA, RAICHUR [presently in karnataka] and the remaining were the telangana districts which are ADILABAD, NIZAMBAD, KARIMNAGAR, MEDAK, HYDERABAD/SECUNDRABAD, MAHABUBNAAR, NALGONDA, WARANGAL. so this state actually was having much of telanganites
Pro independence
Princely state of Hyderabad : yes, hyderabad was the state before indian got its independence, most of them refered it to Nizams [Nizam-ul-Mulk]. Nizams were not involved in the struggle of indian independence. Nizams were the worlds richest during the indian freedom movement
After independence : [1947-1948]
Nizams declared themselves as an independent entity though the Razakars movment [a reactionary private militia with support from the nizam government], they did not want to join India or Pakistan. The Communists led peasant revolt by organizing village defense squads to protect the villagers from the nizams though "Telangana Sayudha Poratam"
Sardar Patel Decided to send in the Army to liberate Hyderabad was influenced in large part by the growing armed struggle led by the Communists.
13 months after Indian independence, the Indian Army moved in and ended the dictatorship of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad.
The indian union govt sacked the nizams thought police action called Operation Polo in 1948.
splitting of Telangana from the state of Hyderabad [1948-1956]
This legitimate fight for creation of Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital is within the legal confines of Indian Constitution, infact Dr. BR Ambedkar had suggested that Hyderabad to be the 2nd capital of india for reasons such as geographically well placed, better infrastructure. Hyderabad at that time was well developed by the nizams. It was well connected by air, rail and road transportation to all parts of the country. in fact Hyderabad it was 5th largest city in india at that time and it still continues to be the 5th largest city in india.
After that Hyderabad the state was an dependent under the indian union with nizams still in nominal power with Fath Jang Mir Osman Ali Khan as Rajpramukh from 1948 to1956
However the fate of this place was not in their hands, even though Dr B.R. Ambedkar suggested that states cannot be initiated on linguistic basis, several andhra politicians wanted that telugu speaking people should be having one state to define unity in them. since the telugu dominated places of the Hyderabad State were drawn to unite as a single state, the andhras who were in the madras province also want to separate from it came into picture. now the two areas Telangana and the seema-andhra were dominated with telugu speaking people, thus these two areas had to be merged to be a single telugu state.
splitting of Andhra from Madras province [1948-1953]
The Andhras were struggling for the formation of a separate Andhra Province since the period of British, but could not succeed. Inspite of several efforts made by the Andhra leaders before the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the desire for a separate Andhra State was unsuccessful.
The Government of India suggested the Dar Commission, (S.K.Dar as the chairman) who did not recommend for the creation of States on the linguistic consideration had an adverse effect in the andhra. An J.V.P. Committee, was constituted by the Congress recommended that the creation of linguistic provinces be postponed by few years. However, it suggested that Andhra Province could be formed provided the Andhras gave up their claim to the city of Madras. It provoked violent reaction in Andhra as the Telugus were not prepared to fore go the city of Madras.
A Partition Committee was formed under the Kumaraswami Raja, the then CM of Madras state. Andhra was represented by Tanguturi Prakasam, B.Gopala Reddi, Kala Venkata Rao and N.Sanjiva Reddy. The Partition Committee could not arrive at an agreed settlement.
In the First General Elections of 1952, Andhras expressed their resentment towards the Congress leaders by defeating them at the polls. United Democratic Front was formed nd elected T.Prakasam as their leader. But the Governor nominated C.Rajagopala Chari to the Legislative Council and Rajagopala Chari became the Chief Minister of the Madras State. The Andhras were not satisfied with the Rajagopalachari's favour towards tamilans so The desire of the Andhras to separate themselves from the composite Madras State and form their own State gained further momentum.
Potti Sriramulu, a Gandhian, began his fast unto death on the 19th of October, 1952 at Madras. Though the fast created an unprecedented situation throughout Andhra,On the 15th of December, 1952, Sriramulu attained martyrdom. The news of Sriramulu's death rocked Andhra into a violent and devastating agitation. The Government of India was taken aback at this popular upsurge. On the 19th December, 1952, Jawaharlal Nehru announced in the Lok Sabha that the Andhra State would be formed with the eleven undisputed Telugu districts, and the three Taluks of the Bellary district, but excluding Madras City
On the 1st of October, 1953, Andhra State came into existence with Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Chittoor, Cuddapah, Anantapur and Kurnool, and the taluks of Rayadurg, Adoni and Alur of the Bellary district.
Formation of Andhra Pradesh – 1947 to 1956
Telugu speaking people demanded for their long cherished Visalandhra formation, but people of Hyderabad state were unanimous in their demand for splitting the state into three parts[Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema belonged to Madras state and Telangana was part of Hyderabad state, which was independent]. The States Reorganization Commission headed by Syed Fazal Ali concluded that there should be no merger of the two states and it will be unfair for the hyderabad state(telangana region) to merge with andhra as andhra would have an unfair advantage. So, the congress central decision to go ahead with the merger was not ‘based on the commission’s conclusion’ but based on the high level lobbying by andhra politicians
The Congress Party High Command did not prefer Visalandhra, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru also warned the Telanganites about the andhras edge over telanganites but due to high level lobbying from the andhra politicians and selfish politicians the visalandhra had to be formed. However the SRC considered these issues and made a GENTLEMEN's agreement with B. Rama Krishna Rao, K.V. Ranga Reddy, M. Channa Reddy, J.V. Narsing Rao from telangana and B. Gopal Reddy, N. Sanjeeva Reddy, G.Lachanna and Alluri Satyanarayana Raju from Andhra State. so Visalandhra was inevitable, the enlarged state included 9 Telugu speaking districts of Hyderabad state to 11 districts of Andhra state to form Andhra Pradesh.
In the process, the Hyderabad state was split among Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra State. Gulbarga division merged with Karnataka, Aurangabad division merged with Maharashtra and The rest of the two divisions of the state – Gulshanabad or Medak, Nizamabad merged with Andhra pradesh.
Thus, the state of ‘Andhra Pradesh’ emerged merging all the districts of Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana on November 1, 1956
Gentleman’s Agreement and Mulki Rules
The promises were made by leaders of Andhra to ensure that the new opportunities in Telangana go to Telangana people.
Actually, there was already a system in place practiced by erstwhile Nizam to take care of such representations – called Mulki Rules. These rules allowed certain portions of jobs to be given people of that region only. The agreements between Andhra and Telangana leaders included following Mulki rules in the new state.
1969, Jai Telangana Agitation
All the clauses of Gentleman’s Agreements were violated.
Illegally, most of the jobs where given to Andhra people. This resulted in mass migration of the andhras to telangana. The top honchos who hailed from Andhra started to fill most of the top positions with their kth and kin, Violating all the guidelines that were agreed upon the SR act of 1956
Telangana people had no choice but to launch an agitation in 1969 demanding a separate state. Indira Gandhi, the prime minister of that time was not interested in creating new states. Many people were arrested and put in jail while 400 people died in police shootings.
1971: Elections and the Legal Battle
When the telanganaites agitation was suppressed in 1969, A new party called Telangana Praja Samiti (TPS) led by Channa Reddy, This party clearly indicated the power of Telanganites and the dream of telangana. Indhra Gandhi who was against the formation of new states made Channa Reddy as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and made him join the Congress Party. However, an All-Party Agreement of 1969 was agreed to protect the interests of Telangana as a concession
Though the Agreement was on paper, the Andhras were still flouting it, so the people of Telangana took a legal route and the case went to Supreme Court and resulted in favour of telanganites, Supreme Court asked the Andhras to Vacate the positions that should have been allocated to the Telanganaites.
GO 36 of 1969 that promised to position Telangana people in 25,000 that were illegally occupied by Andhra people remains unfulfilled even today.
1972: Jai Andhra Agitation
Andhra people who knew that Indhra Gandhi was against all new states, so now they played clever by asking for a new state for themselves in 1972. They called it Jai Andhra Movement. This agitation was a sequel to the Telangana agitation which demanded that only `Mulkis' should be appointed to the posts in Telangana including the Hyderabad city.
`Mulki' was defined as one who was born in the State of Hyderabad or resided there continuously for 15 years and had given an affidavit that he abandoned the idea of returning to his native place. As these rules stood like thorns in the way for the people of the Andhra to compete for the posts, their validity was challenged in the High Court.
A full bench of the High Court by a four-one majority held that the Mulki rules were not valid and operative after the formation of Andhra Pradesh but the Supreme Court was in favor of Telanganites and Mulki rules were valid and were in force
This Judgement created a great political crisis. The people of the Andhra region felt that they were reduced to the status of second class citizens in their own State capital. They felt that the only way to uphold their dignity was by severing their connection with Telangana and started a movement for the separation of Andhra region from Andhra Pradesh.
1973, President's rule
As agitation continued to stir the state there was no other option than to impose President's rule.
The presidents rule was imposed on 10th of January, 1973 to December 10, 1973,
Six-Point Formula
and finally, a political settlement was arrived with A `Six-Point Formula' that was agreed upon by the leaders of the two regions and to prevent any such agitations in future.
The `Six-Point Formula' included
(1) the abolition of Mulki rules and the Telangana Regional Committee and
(2) the establishment of a Central University at Hyderabad to augment educational facilities.
Sri Jalagam Vengala Rao as the Chief Minister was inducted. With this, normalcy returned and the State enjoyed political stability till the next General Elections
1978 to 1982
The Congress Party swept the polls and Dr.M.Channa Reddy became the 6th Chief Minister of A.P and announced that separate Telangana was no longer an issue. However he had to resign in 1980 due to some factional squabbles in the party and he was succeeded by T.Anjaiah, he was replaced by Sri Bhavanam Venkataram in 1982 and who in turn was replaced by Sri K.Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy in September 1982. Thus AP had 4 Cheif Ministers in 4 years.
1983, N.T.Rama Rao - Telugu Desam Party
Frequent changes of the Chief Ministers by the Congress High Command created dissatisfaction among the people. Taking advantage of this popular discontent, Sri N.T.Rama Rao, a leading Movie Actor and Famous figure of the film world formed a regional party called `Telugu Desam' in January, 1983.
He contested in the General Elections held in 1983 and was victorious so, Sri Rama Rao was sworn in as the tenth Chief Minister of the State.
1984 - 1985
on the 16th of August 1984, Sri Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, succeeded in becoming the Chief Minister by engineering the dismissal of Sri Rama Rao by the then Governor. .
However, Sri Rama Rao was reinstated on the 16th of September 1984 consequent on the severe criticism on the action of Governor. In the elections of March 1985, Sri Rama Rao proved that he continued to enjoy the confidence of people by winning absolute majority in the House.
1985, 610 Govt Order
610 GO was introduced in 1985 by Sri NT Rama Rao with a promise to enforce it within a year, but continues to be unimplemented in spite of repeated demands.
Purpose of 610GO: "If you are a government employee anywhere in Andhra Pradesh and you don’t belong to that region, it is mandatory for you to vacate your present post in favour of a person from that area"
This is the longest pending GO in the history of AndraPradesh
1989 to 1998
The Telugu people were not quite pleased with some of the policies of the Telugu Desam Government, So the Congress returned with good majority.
During the following 5 years, Dr.M.Channa Reddy, Sri N.Janardhana Reddy and Sri K.Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy became Chief Ministers.
Again Telugu public were discontentment with congress and it reflected as the Telugu Desam Party came to power in 1994.
In 1995 N.T.Rama Rao, has been succeeded by Sri N.Chandrababu Naidu
The Voice of Telangana was low in this period
1998 - 2000 Jai Telangana
P. Indra Reddy. Reddy launched Jai Telangana Party, it was part of the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Jan Morcha (People's Front) in the 1998 elections. JTP worked for a separate Telangana state to be craved out of Andhra Pradesh.
After the 1998 elections, he merged his JTP with Indian National Congress.
In the 1999 elections to the AP assembly, Reddy was elected on a Congress ticket. Reddy died in a car accident in 2000.
In 90's BJP promised a separate Telangana state if they came to power, how ever they could create Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarkhand state in 2000 but could not create a separate Telangana state because of Telugu Desam Party. where as Congress party MLAs from Telangana formed the Telangana Congress Legislators Forum.
2001 TRS
Telangana Rashtra Samithi was launched by K.Chandrashekar Rao on a single agenda of separate Telangana State
2004 elections
Congress adds the telangana agenda to their manifesto and takes support from TRS to win the elections.
comes to power and DR. Y.S.Rajashekar Reddy assures that telangana bill will be passed when time comes

TRS plays major role but its still unsuccessful because of YSR's strict rule...
and in 2009 elections TRS takes help of TDP, but this time TDP could not come to power..
just when TRS lost its hopes, Dr. YSR dies in a chopper accident and the state goes into a shock, then another shock with floods..just when people thought everything will be fine... our TRS jumps into action
This is the time for TRS take the opportunity of the situation.. so KCR goes on for hunger strike and this is how the state goes into turmoil...
the rest is yet to come.. plz be patient and let me know ur views over this topic so far...
thanks

a detailed history, I can add this to my new knowledge. Thank you for sharing. It is interesting to read things like this I have not crossed upon. More power.
Some power centres in Delhi is motivated by selfish people, who always have negative approach in anything and everything. They use these arguments in a stereotype way: "If you do that, it will go this way.... if you allow it, they will go wrong..." All highly positioned people in Delhi are not assertive. It was during Mrs.Indira Gandhi when decisions were taken in a right sense. Now it is not so. Dr.M.Singh has to ask Mrs.Sonia and Mrs.Sonia has to ask her son and he has to ask someone outside India. If Telegana issue was allowed to settle in 1956, it would have proved good. Then, it was people who gave a wrong lead that if Andhra was not larger than Tamilnadu, Tamils will encroach nearby areas. So, purposely, Tamil speaking areas like Chittore (prior to 1911, Chittore district stretched from Tirupathy in the north to Cuddalore in the south) and Tirupathy were added to Andhra in South and Telegana was added to Andhra in the north.
Medieval Indian history says that a powerful kingdom existed around Warangal and its last king was murdered by invading muslims. Even now, in the jungles near Warangal, a celebration goes on every year in memory of the Queen and princess of Warangal. So, in every sense, creation of Telegana is correct. It needs immediate attention, even if the present CM does not like it.

well it is so much necessary to have a separate state as Telangana?
good info dude, gave good insight of the history of AP.
This Telangana agitation i experienced since 70s when i was a student. The states on Linguistic pattern were made due to demand form the regional groups.Later issue of underdevelopment was surfaced and infrastructure weakness of some states made them weak and people started to immigrate to developed states, community anger ignited to focus and felt neglected by the central
government and state government of their own,so violent agitations began to press the demands.Recently Chhatisgadh,Uttarakhand,Jharkhand were formed,so far they are doing well because of their good governance.
Telangana issue is emotional, if you ask TKS and BJP what is the agenda of development of new state and how are they going to make it developed state.answer will be typical, we can achieve. How to change the mindset of the communities?
Telangana has to be seperated from Andhra as the entire city is encroached by andhra and there is no possible for any person who is born in telangana region to prosper. Chandrbabu Naidu and Y S Reddy have looted the state now YSJagan has beaten even Ambanis It took Tata s Birla s and Ambanis serveral years to establish but Y S R and his Gr8 son Jagan became Multi Billionares in just 4 years
all andhras have to leave telangana and especially Hyderabad and go back to their origin then only real justice for Telangana People will come. Politician s before Independence used to go to prison for India s independence but now a days these so called White Shirt White Pant and White Sports shoes politicians are going to prison which very safe for them in the name of scams
